Zirakpur is a satellite town of Chandigarh located in the located in Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar (Mohali) district & situated at the foothills of Shivalik hills in the eastern most part of Punjab.

It is one of the six local planning areas under Greater Mohali region. Adjoining to Chandigarh & Panchkula the region has been envisioned to develop a planned area for 4.5 Million people.

Commercialization

According to framework for development strategies in the regional master plan, Zirakpur-Central Mohali-Kharar-Mullanpur corridor is targeted for immediate growth for the next 15-20 years. The corridor comprises the airport, The FEZ, Central Mohali, Mullanpur & Zirakpur. At south east ward link towards Panchkula & Zirakpur was consider to become a Commercial Center to capture more residential oriented development at Panchkula.  One of the two technological knowledge business park corridors is also to be planned at Banur-Zirakpur Corridor.

Road Connectivity

The GMR is well connected with other parts of India by means of road. The connecting road network to the region consist of national highways, state highways and major district roads. Four national highway pass through the region are namely NH1, NH21, NH22 & NH95. NH1 connects the region with Ambala and New Delhi, NH21 connects to Ropar, NH 22 connects to Shimla, Himachal & NH95 to Ludhiana, Punjab. Zirakpur is connected with NH21, NH22, NH95 & NH64 with the other part of the region.
